Affiliate Disclosure
How affiliate commissions work, and what they cannot buy.
Current status
State of Emergency does not currently run active affiliate links. Commercial pages are being built, and affiliate relationships are expected. This page states the rules that will apply from the first link onward, so that the standard exists before the revenue does.
How affiliate links work
- Some links to products will be affiliate links.
- If you buy after clicking one, State of Emergency may earn a commission.
- You do not generally pay more because of that commission — the price is set by the retailer.
- Not every product link is an affiliate link.
- A commission does not entitle a brand to a favorable conclusion, a ranking position or inclusion at all.
Why we disclose more than the minimum
U.S. guidance requires affiliate relationships to be disclosed clearly and conspicuously — close to the recommendation, in language an ordinary reader understands, not buried in a footer link.
We go slightly further than the minimum for a practical reason. This site asks readers to spend money on equipment they hope never to use, largely on our say-so. That only works if the commercial relationship is visible enough for a reader to weigh it.
Prices, availability and specifications
Prices and stock change constantly and vary by retailer and region. Any figure on this site is accurate at the time of writing and should be treated as an indication, not a quote.
For anything affecting safety or compatibility — rated load, certification, capacity, fuel type, connector standard — confirm with the manufacturer or the retailer before purchasing. A specification we transcribed correctly six months ago may describe a revision of the product you are no longer being sold.
What we cannot help with
We are not the seller. Orders, payment, shipping, warranty claims and returns are between you and the retailer, under their terms. We have no visibility into your order and no ability to intervene in it.
What commission does not buy
This is the part that matters. A retailer paying a commission has no influence over whether we recommend a product, where it appears in a comparison, or what we say about its weaknesses.
We will not pretend commercial incentives are invisible. Affiliate revenue influences which categories are worth covering commercially. It does not change the verdict once a category is covered. If those two ever come into conflict on a specific page, the page says so.
Free products and brand relationships
If a product was supplied free, loaned, or comes with a direct brand relationship, that is disclosed on the page where it is discussed — not only here.
Verify before you buy
Specifications, prices and availability change. Ours are accurate at the time of writing. For anything that affects safety — capacity, certification, compatibility, rated loads — confirm with the manufacturer or retailer before purchasing.
Where you will see this disclosure
A short disclosure appears near the top of any page carrying affiliate recommendations, before the recommendations themselves — not buried at the bottom:
